Birthday Parties at the Fairfield Museum
Engage your child with a fun, educational and hands-on birthday party at the Fairfield Museum! We’ll begin with a short gallery tour in the museum’s fascinating exhibits, where kids will learn about the intriguing stories of this region’s history and explore the area with an interactive map. Then we’ll have fun creating arts and crafts with a themed activity to choose from below. Following the activity, you’ll have time for refreshments, cake and presents in our party room!

Beach Party!
Bring your beach towels and sunglasses for a party at our “virtual beach!” View historic bathing costumes and our beach panorama and them make your own windsock or sailors’ valentine. If weather permits, we’ll have a water balloon contest outside! Recommended for kids 5 and up.

Huzzah! Revolutionary War Marine
Using reproduction objects, engaging stories and real soldier’s drills, kids will learn firsthand what life was like with a costumed re-enactor portraying an 18th century American Marine. Recommended for kids 5 and up. Kids 9 and up will even learn swordfighting!

Pirate Party!
Get ready to walk the plank and talk like a pirate with the museum’s resident pirate! Listen to stories of pirates from yore, go on a scavenger hunt and then make your own treasure map. Recommended for kids 5 and up. Kids 9 and up will even learn swordfighting!

School Days
What was life like in a 19th century schoolhouse? We’ll find out in the museum’s exhibit featuring a real school bell, samplers and journals. Then take a journey to a 19th century classroom in the historic 1804 Fairfield Academy on the Town Green. Through role-playing and hands-on activities, see what it was like to be a student 200 years ago! Recommended for kids 5 and up.

Colonial Workshop
Learn about life in colonial times, from what people wore to how they survived without television and cell phones! If weather permits, we’ll have a short walking tour of the historic colonial era buildings around the Town Green, or a tour of the Old Burying Ground. Choose one activity:
1) Make your own book and write with a quill pen and ink. Recommended for kids 8 and up.
2) Make a corn husk doll. Recommended for kids 6 and up.
3) Create your own pinch pot with clay. Recommended for kids 5 and up.

Homemade Spa
Life can be so stressful! It wasn’t too easy in the “olden days,” either! We’ll learn about how the colonists worked hard to provide for their needs using herbs and plants for cooking, medicine and more. Then we’ll make our own soap, bath salts and decorate containers with ribbons and herbs to enjoy in luxury! Recommended for kids 5 and up.
