Photoduplication
The Fairfield Museum and History Center offers scanning services for materials that cannot be photocopied due to age, condition, or uniqueness of the item.

Among the materials that may be scanned are volumes printed before 1920, fragile items regardless of age, as well as all Special Collections items including manuscripts and church books, photographs, and maps, among others.

Scanning services are conducted in-house only. We do not allow personal scanners or personal photography of our collections.

Items are scanned at original size and a resolution of 200 dpi for fair use requests, and 300 dpi for commercial use requests. Scans are delivered to the patron on a CD in TIFF or JPEG format.

Please contact our librarian with any questions.

Policies
The Fairfield Museum and History Center will duplicate materials in its collections under the following conditions:

  1. Payment in full is required in advance.
  2. Material requested to be scanned must be found in physically good condition by the Librarian.
  3. Restricted material may not be reproduced without permission from the donor.
  4. The client is responsible for observing copyright.
  5. The museum reserves the right to withhold permission for the reproduction of any material.
  6. Permission to publish is not implied in photoduplication services delivered. It must be granted separately and in writing. This includes extensive quotation from unpublished material.

NOTICE: WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
