Fairfield Museum Summer Camps
Bring your kids to the Fairfield Museum, where summer is filled with fun and adventure! Summer camps are based on the rich history of our region and the Fairfield Museum’s dynamic exhibits and collections. Kids will travel back in time . . . become a spy for George Washington, go to school in a 19th century one-room schoolhouse and more. Along the way, kids will explore

our history and develop new skills in a creative museum environment.

Summer Camps 2008

Art in a Box!

Session 1: June 23 - 27 | 9am – 12pm | Ages 6 – 8

Session 2: June 23 - 27 | 1pm – 4pm   | Ages 9 - 13

This summer let your child explore their creative side with artistic projects and activities combining the  visual arts.  Campers will focus their artistic expression and creativity, culminating in unique and artistic shadow box masterpieces.  Students will work with clay, paint and collage, incorporating materials from home and from nature.  At week’s end, parents can look forward to an exceptional exhibit!  Fee includes art supplies and lessons on ‘learning to look’ in the museum's galleries.

True Colors

Session 3:  August 4 – 8 | 9am – 12pm | Ages 6 – 8

Session 4:  August 4 – 8 | 1pm – 4pm   | Ages 9 - 12

This camp takes inspiration from the museum’s historical collections to create vibrant and colorful arts and crafts projects. Students will learn a variety of skills inspired by traditional techniques that explore colors throughout history, including vegetable dyeing, wool felting, marbleizing paper as well as making books and papermaking with natural materials.

The Ogden House Colonial Life Camp

Session 5 (FULL):  August 11 – 15  |    9am – 12pm | Ages 8 - 12

Session 6 (CLOSED): August 11 – 15  |    9am – 3pm   | Ages 8 - 12

Session 7 (FULL):  August 18 – 22  |    9am – 12pm | Ages 6 – 8

Session 8:  August 18 – 22  |    1pm – 4pm   | Ages 9 – 13

Give your child a unique summer experience; let them learn what life was like when our country was born.  Students will encounter colonial life through fun, hands-on activities, including candle dipping, writing with pen and ink, and making butter and cheese.  Campers spend four days learning and playing at Ogden House, a home dating back to 1750.  The final day is spent on the historic Town Green where students will explore a 19th century schoolhouse, learn about tools in a Victorian-era barn, and make ice-cream by hand!

Three Days Before School!

Session 9:  August 25 - 27   | 9am – 12pm | Ages 6 – 8

Session 10:  August 25 - 27 | 1pm – 4pm   | Ages 9 – 13

Get ready ‘old-school’ style!  Take an adventure in a 19th century schoolhouse, learn about the first schools in Fairfield, see a 1827 schoolhouse bell and more.  Campers will create, decorate and decoupage school supplies that they can use in their own class, including journals, pencil-boxes and more. These one-of-a-kind items will be the envy of classmates!

Location: Fairfield Museum and History Center, 370 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT

Each half day session: $32 members, $42 non-members

All 3 days: $96 members, $126 non-members

Summer Camps are led by the education staff, who have a combined experience spanning over 30 years in museum education, history and art.  Staff are trained in CPR, and enrollment is kept to a low student / teacher ratio.  At the end of each week, parents and caregivers are invited for a student show and tell!

Camps fill quickly - please send in your registration form as soon as possible. Please contact the Education Department at 203-259-1598 for more information and for any students with allergies or special needs.

Half Day programs include a snack break. Please pack a bagged lunch for full day camps. Confirmation letters will be sent when registration materials and payment is received. No refunds are given unless a program is cancelled by FMHC. Emergency situations will be considered at FMHC’s discretion.

Half Day Fee: 9am – 12pm | $160 members, $210 non-members

Non-member rate includes a $50 family membership. Please call 203-259-1598 for help to compute fees.

Each additional week discount:  Half Day: + $150 (Higher price prevails)
