Tom Hanford will sing colonial tavern songs at Tavern Night on July 11

Commemorate Fairfield's role in the American Revolution with these inspiring events and programs!

Tavern Night at the Sun Tavern   July 11 at 6pm

Escape to the 1700s for a memorable night of food, drink, colonial entertainment and revelry!  Mingle with George Washington, sing 18th century songs and enjoy a special brew by SBC while we honor Fairfield Fire Dept. EXHIBIT: "Reduced to Ashes - the 1779 Burning of Fairfield"

Opening June 21, this dramatic exhibit will explore the events leading up to the British invasion, the burning of our town, the devastating aftermath and Fairfield's transformation.

Burning of Fairfield Walking Tours

Participants will view the new exhibit and explore sites on and around the town green.

Before Attack: "We Sleep in Constant Fear" June 27,2 pm

The Burning: "The Devouring Flames" July 2, 10 am and a twilight tour on July 7, 7 pm

The Aftermath: "Rising from the Ashes" July 18, 2 pm

Each tour is $5 for members, $7 for non-members

Burning of Fairfield Harbor Cruises July 6, 7 pm, July 12, 5:30 pm

Cruise Black Rock harbor re-enacting the evening that the Crown Forces held Fairfield. Cruises leave from Captain's Cove in Bridgeport. $20 for members, $25 for non-members.

Camp: Spies R Us July 8 & 9

Ages 5-7: 10-11:30am, Per day, Members: $12, Non-Members: $15

Ages 8-1: 1:30-4:30pm, Per day, Members: $30, Non-Members: $35

Learn about the spies who worked for George Washington's Culper Spy Ring. Enjoy fun spy activities like creating a secret identity, fingerprinting and more.

LECTURE: Lighting Freedom's Flame: Connecticut and New Haven's Revolutionary War Sites July 16, 7 pm

Explore sites associated with the 1779 invasion of New Haven, listen to Timothy Dwight's account of the burning and recall the treachery of New Haven's Benedict Arnold. Learn about historic sites associated with such patriots and founding fathers Oliver Ellsworth, Governor Jonathan Trumbull, Nathan Hale, Israel Putnam and Roger Sherman. Free for members, $5 for non-members

Greenfield HIll Cemetery Tour July 19, 1-3 pm

Discover the gravesites of soldiers from the American Revolution with Rod MacKenzie, library genealogist.

$5 for members, $7 for non-members

Fall Festival September 13, 12 pm

Commemorate the 230th anniversary of the burning of Fairfield. The Town Green will be transformed into a colonial marketplace and fair. Enjoy music, children's activities and a battle reenactment.

OGDEN HOUSE & GARDENS

Ogden House and Gardens

Opens Sundays through September

1:00pm - 4:00pm
Enjoy docent-led tours of the 1750 Ogden House and see how people lived in the 18th century. The house is furnished with period objects including textiles and fine pieces of furniture with Fairfield provenance. Take a stroll through the kitchen garden, generously maintained by the Fairfield Garden Club, and view plantings used in colonial times.  Open on Sundays, beginning June 7
Free for Museum Members; Non-members; $3 suggested donation.

SUMMER CAMPS 2009

Children ages 6 - 12 will enjoy fun, hands-on projects during summer at the Museum! Museum Kids Camps feature arts and crafts as well as time outdoors on the historic Green. Discover what life was like in colonial times at the Colonial Life Camps at the Ogden House. Click here for more information.
